California Proposition 65
Prop 65, officially known as the "California Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act of 1986," requires businesses to inform Californians about products that may expose them to chemicals known to cause cancer, birth defects, or other reproductive harm. The law aims to help Californians make more informed decisions about their exposure to these chemicals.
How might lead get into tea leaves? We do not add lead to any of our products, nor is it a byproduct of the production process. However, lead is a naturally occurring element found in soil, and plants naturally absorb it along with other minerals and nutrients. Therefore, it would be virtually impossible to test every product for all 800 substances on the California Prop 65 list.
Currently, there is no established method for removing lead from plant material. Therefore, we cannot exclude the possibility that lead may be detected in tea leaves.
